I was introduced to the field of female meiosis in my first semester at Yale during a special lecture when Prof. Mogessie shared films from the Mogessie Lab. Although my background in classical music offered no immediate foothold for understanding mammalian oocyte meiosis, it helped me appreciate the precision and coordination required of the thousands of proteins orchestrating the process. During the summer of ’26, after my first year, I joined the Mogessie Lab and began researching the role of kinesin-1 in mammalian oocyte meiosis, supported by the Yale College First-Year Summer Research Fellowship.

Returning to the Lab as a sophomore, I will continue my research on the role of kinesin-1 in spindle formation, cytoskeletal organization, and chromosome segregation. I intend to continue my oocyte meiosis research in the Mogessie Lab throughout my college career while working toward a degree in MCDB and continuing to study classical guitar at the Yale School of Music.
